Irene Culver Glasscock, resident of Bartlett, former resident of Fayette County and wife of Clyde Bert Glasscock, Jr. died Friday evening, January 4, 2013 at her residence. She was 78 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Glasscock were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, January 6th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Jack Gresham of the Macon First Baptist Church officiating. Special Music was provided by Mrs. Glasscock’s niece, Sandra Hall and a Poem Reading was given by Mrs. Glasscock’s granddaughter, Katey Wylie. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Glasscock was born December 21, 1934 in Moulton, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Lee Culver and Nadine Lee Chambers Culver. She moved at an early age with her family to Fayette County and received her education in the Fayette County Public School System. She was a resident of the Macon Community in earlier years and was married November 6, 1957 to Clyde Bert Glasscock, Jr., a retired property manager, who survives.
Mrs. Glasscock served as a property manager in Memphis for the McCaskill, Ringel, Greenburg Company for over 35 years before her retirement 3 years ago. She was of the Baptist faith and attended the Union Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis as long as health permitted. Mrs. Glasscock will be remembered as an avid collector for many years of vintage one-of-a-kind dolls and she enjoyed sharing her wealth of information and collection with others. Traveling and special times with her grandchildren were favorite pastimes.
In addition to her husband of 55 years, Mrs. Glasscock is survived by her daughter, Terri Mendoza (Richard) of Moline, IL; her son, Tony Looney (Penny) of Bartlett; two sisters, Betty Ann Hill of Oakland, Sarah Kee of Oakland; two brothers, James Mitchell Culver of Burlington, WA, Jerry C. Culver of Somerville; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Glasscock was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Cox.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were James Mitchell Culver, Jerry C. Culver, Carl Doyle, Andy Looney, Tim Kee and Tony Looney.
Honorary casketbearers were Danny Ray Hill and Wesley Cannon.
