JACK OTIS FOLEY, a resident of the Braden Community, retired U. S. Air Force Colonel and Flight Instructor for Federal Express Corporation in Memphis died at 6:30 A.M. Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital Fayette in Somerville where he was taken after becoming suddenly ill at his residence. He was 66 years of age and died unexpectedly.

Services with Military Honors for Mr. Foley were conducted at 3 P.M. Wednesday, November 26th at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with a  Special Reading given by his son, Mason Wade Foley. Interment will be private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Foley was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on June 27, 1942. He is the son of Anna Mae Berry Foley and the late Tyler Otis Foley. He was educated in the Knoxville, Tennessee Public School System and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, receiving his Degree in Animal Husbandry.

As a young person he was active in the R.O.T.C. Program and continued his service to his country by serving in the United States Air Force for twenty-eight years before retiring as an Air Force Colonel. He served in Vietnam as an RF-4C Phantom II Pilot.

He had served as a DC-10 Flight Instructor for the Federal Express Corporation in Memphis for eleven years and remained active until his sudden death.

Mr. Foley was a Christian Scientist and was married May 21, 2006 to the former Deborah LaPierre, a native of Gouverneur, New York, a retired nurse who survives.

Mr. Foley had been a resident of the Braden Community for four years-and will be remembered for his love of patriotism, nature, sports and the rural way of life. He enjoyed computers and caring for his yard.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Foley is survived by his daughter, Lisa Marie Strader (Scott) of Atlanta, GA; his son, Mason Wade Foley (Danice) of Atlanta, GA; his mother, Anna Mae Berry Foley of Knoxville, TN; two step-sons, Marcus Law and Michael Curcio, both of Gouverneur, NY; three sisters: Dorothy Saulsbury of Hueytown, AL; Margaret Rector of Middlesboro, KY and Myra Sue Ferguson of Morristown, TN; three brothers: John Foley of Knoxville, TN; James Foley of Clarita, CA and William Foley of Knoxville, TN and two step-grandchildren.

The family request that Memorials be directed to any Chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
