JACK VERNON SPICER

August 11, 1935 — January 22, 2010

JACK VERNON SPICER, a resident of Old Jackson Road near Somerville and retired employee of Fayette County Public Works died Friday morning, January 22, 2010 at his residence. He was 74 years of age and died following an extended illness of several years.

Funeral services for Mr. Spicer were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, January 24th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Jim Perry, Pastor of the Moscow Family Worship Center, officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community near Somerville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Spicer was born August 11, 1935 in Camden, Tennessee the son of the late Tom Spicer and the late Ruby Rice Spicer.

He moved to Fayette County with his family at an early age and was educated in the Fayette County Public School System.

Mr. Spicer was married November 10, 1951 to the former Lula Cannon of Fayette County who survives.

Mr. Spicer was a Christian and was involved in farming and his hog operation throughout much of his life. He was also employed by the Fayette County Public Works Department for a number of years before his retirement.

He was a longtime resident of the Somerville Community and will be remembered as a person who enjoyed gardening, nature and special times with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors of Mr. Spicer include 2 daughters, Betty Cartlidge (John) of Middleton, TN and Brenda Springer (Phillip) of Somerville; his son, Billy Joe Spicer (Tricia) of Somerville; his sister, Tommie Jean Anderson of Memphis; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Donnie Joe Spicer, Josh Spicer, Wesley Taylor, Larry Wayne Cannon, Thomas Metzger, Arthur Ray Glover, Dale Spicer and Billy Joe Cannon.
