Jackie Loraine Harvell, resident of the Mt. Moriah Community near Whiteville and accomplished musician was discovered dead of natural causes at his residence on Tuesday evening, March 6, 2012. He was 69 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Harvell were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, May 7th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Loyd Shelton of Rossville officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Shelby County, Mr. Harvell was born August 13, 1942. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a graduate of the Humes High School Class of 1960. He had a lifelong love for music and will be remembered as a talented guitarist and in earlier years was a Session Musician in Nashville. He played with a number of musical groups throughout his career and served as a guitarist for the Jerry Lee Lewis Band for five years. He was also employed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department for a number of years before his retirement.
Mr. Harvell was a Christian and was known by many as a gifted mechanic with the ability to repair all types of vintage automobiles. He was a former resident of the Memphis Community for much of his life before moving to the Mt. Moriah Community 15 years ago.
Mr. Harvell leaves a son, Jackie Loraine Harvell, II of California.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Gene Bradberry, Courtney Brauer, Billy Weir, Kay Weir, Willie Austin and Jim Smothers.
