James Charles Bartling, age 65, resident of Cordova, former resident of the Oakland Community and husband of the late Shirley Kinney Bartling, departed this life Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2014 at the Rainbow Health & Rehab Center in Bartlett.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Bartling were conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, December 4th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Father Stephen Kenny, pastor of the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Crowder Cemetery near Whiteville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Bartling was born December 21, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry Bartling and Florence Good Bartling. He received his education in the Shelby County Catholic School System and was a graduate of Bishop Byrne High School. He was married April 6, 1978 to the former Shirley Kinney, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Bartling was employed in various grocery stores in the West Tennessee area for a number of years before his retirement. He was a resident of Whiteville, Oakland, Memphis and Cordova for much of his life and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bolivar. He enjoyed special times with his family and friends, working in the yard and had a special love for his pets.
Mr. Bartling is survived by his daughter, Kelly Garrison (Chris) of Chattanooga; his son, Keith Bartling of Memphis; his sister, Janice Phillips (Dave) of Southaven, Mississippi; and five grandchildren.
Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
