JAMES LLOYD "JIMBO" DAY, JR. a resident of Somerville, retired sales representative for the Dow Chemical Company and World War II veteran died at 7:15 A.M. Thursday, November 29, 2007 at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for 4 days. He was 83 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Day will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, December 6th at the Graveside with Rev. John Michael Krech, Pastor of the Somerville First Presbyterian Church of officiating. Interment will be in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel.
Mr. Day was born June 6, 1924, in Fayette County, the son of the late James Lloyd Day, Sr. and the late Lucy G. Carney Day, early residents of the Laconia Community. He was educated in the Fayette County Public school system, a graduate of the Union University in Jackson, a graduate of George Washington University and continued post-graduate studies at Columbia University.
Mr. Day was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church and served in the United States Navy during the World War II period. He was a person of many talents who enjoyed the arts. An accomplished artist, Mr. Day operated the family mercantile business in Laconia in earlier years, owned and operated a restaurant in Key West, Florida, and for the last 20 years had served as a sales representative for the Dow Chemical Company before his retirement.
Survivors of Mr. Day include three nieces, "Choppy" Thompson of Franklin, TN, Georgette Turner, and Allien Dacus, both of Somerville and first cousin Nancy Newman of Tacoma, MD.
He was preceded in death by his sister Georgene Fowler of Somerville.
