James Warren Hurst, Jr.

JAMES WARREN HURST, JR., resident of Somerville and husband of Charlene Kee Hurst, died at 7:38 A.M. May 6, 2008, at the St. Francis Hospital - Bartlett. He was 65 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Hurst were conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel near Oakland with Rev. Paul Wright, pastor of the Victory Life Assembly of God Church in Somerville and Rev. J.D. Paris, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Hurst was born October 22, 1942, in Somerville, the son of Mary Elizabeth McNabb Hurst and the late James Warren Hurst, Jr. He was educated in the public school system of Fayette County and was a 1959 graduate of the Fayette County High School. Mr. Hurst was married February 14, 1976, to the former Charlene Kee, a native of Fayette County, who survives.
Mr. Hurst was employed throughout his life as a parts manager in Somerville for Crawford Motor Company, Burnette Chevrolet and Heritage Motors. Mr. Hurst retired in 2003 from Auto Zone in Somerville. He was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church and in earlier years, enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. Mr. Hurst was also a mechanic who enjoyed restoring automobiles.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hurst is survived by his daughter, Gwen Meadows of Somerville; his son, Russell Hurst of Somerville, his step-son, Randy Kee of Somerville; his mother, Mary McNabb Hurst of Somerville, 7 grandchildren & 6 great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Stephen Burns, Timothy Burns, Justin Kee, Jack Joyner, Randy Kee and Douglas Ray McNabb.
Honorary casketbearers were Perry Kee, Thurman Kee, Bobby Kee, Jackie Kee, Christopher Burns and Jerry Nix.
The family request that memorials be directed to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society or to Victory of Life Assembly of God Church.
