James "Jim" Robert Smith

Moscow, Tennessee

James Robert “Jim” Smith, age 65, resident of Moscow, Tennessee, and husband of Nancy Yager Smith, departed this life Wednesday evening, February 14, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Jim was born April 15, 1958, in Murray, Kentucky, the son of the late Thomas Raney Smith and Bonnie JoAn DeCamp Smith. He was raised in Camden, Ohio, and graduated from Preble Shawnee High School in Camden. Jim was employed with the United States Government as an immigration services clerk for many years before his retirement last year. Mr. Smith was of the Episcopal faith. He was a member of the 901 Club and enjoyed Memphis football, coaching youth sports, golfing, cooking, and barbecuing.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Nancy Yager Smith of Moscow, TN; his daughter, Jahna Kristine Smith of Lakeland, TN; his son, James DeCamp Smith (Julia) of Houston, TX; and four grandsons.

Funeral Services for Mr. Smith were held at 1 P.M. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Church of the Holy Apostle with Rev. Lisa McIndoo officiating. Interment followed in Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were James Smith, Jahna Smith, Keith Gilooly, Woody Smith, Allen Browning, Martin Brock, and Christopher Byrd. Honorary pallbearers were all of Coach Jim’s former sports players.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the religious organization, church or youth sports program of the donor's choice.
