James Wilson Montague, Jr., age 80, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and husband of Janis Boling Montague, departed this life Monday evening, June 13, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
James was born November 10, 1941 in Somerville, the son of the late James Wilson Montague, Sr. and Wilma Matheson Montague. He graduated from Fayette County High School in 1959 and served his country in the Tennessee National Guard. He was married to Janis Boling Montague on November 21, 1965 and was a member of Somerville Church of Christ. James was a farmer for many years before his retirement and he enjoyed riding tractors and watching westerns and MMA fighting. Known to his family as PawPaw, he loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Montague is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Janis Montague; four daughters, Jamie Taylor (Brandon Tassin), Joyce Anschultz (Chris), Janet Hunt (Joel) and Julie Sullivan (Michael); two sisters, Joan Springer (Murry) and Denise White (Randy); his brother, Billy Montague (Terresa); nine grandchildren, Danielle Matheny (Ryan), Wilson Ashmore (Gabrielle), Mackenzie Bennett (Blake), Jessica Anschultz, Harleigh Fortner (Nick), Emily Hunt, Caroline Hunt, Katie Lynn Branch and Jake Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Eli and Reese Matheny, Presley and Rylee Fortner and Weston Ashmore. He is also survived by his dog, Bo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Montague.
Funeral Services for Mr. Montague were held at 10 A.M. Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Remarks were given by Darrell Beard, Ryan Manning, Chris Anschultz and Mr. Montague’s grandchildren. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery with Joel Hunt speaking.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Wilson Ashmore, Blake Bennett, Nick Fortner, Frank House, Harlan Kee, Ryan Matheny, Matt Montague and Chuck Nance. Junior pallbearers were Eli Matheny and Jake Smith. Honorary pallbearers were George Adams, Larry Cook, Tommy Harris, Bernes Johnson, Billy Montague, Tommy Sanders, Lee Yancey and Earl Yoder.
