JAMES EDWARD MORRIS, a resident of Abbeville, Georgia, United States Veteran and former resident of the Memphis area with extended family members in Fayette County and West Tennessee died Monday, August 17, 2009 at the River Willows Nursing Home in Abbeville. He was 71 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Private Funeral services for Mr. Morris were conducted at the graveside with interment in the Sandhill Cemetery near Newport, Arkansas. Local arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Morris was born March 15, 1938 in Tuckerman, Arkansas to the late Edward and Golda Sherrell Morris.

He was educated in the Arkansas Public School System and served in the United States Air Force in earlier years.

A former Memphian, Mr. Morris relocated to Abbeville, Georgia, where he had resided for the past three years.

Mr. Morris was a former resident of New Orleans, Louisiana; Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Albany, Georgia.

A retired Crop Duster in the Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas areas, he was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and was active in the organization as long as health permitted.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Morris is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy & Dennis Walker of Abbeville; Anetia Carol & Brian Roberts of Sylvester, GA and B. J. and Randy Conley of Cordele, GA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Peggy Dalton of Butte, Montana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Barbara Sue Harrison Morris.
