James Queen
1949—2011
James Lee Queen, resident of Oakland and retired employee of the Bryce Corporation in Memphis died Wednesday evening, January 12, 2011 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville. He was 61 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Funeral services for Mr. Queen were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, January 15
th
at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Rev. Eddie Little of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Memory Hill Gardens Cemetery on Germantown Parkway. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Queen was born April 3, 1949 in Memphis, the son of Eugene Lee Queen and the late Rebecca Evelyn Green Queen. He was a graduate of the Memphis City Public School System and the State Technical Institute in Memphis. Mr. Queen served in the United State Marine Corps during the Vietnam period and was married September 2, 1988 to the former Sandra Faye Williams, who survives.
Mr. Queen was an active member of the Hickory Withe Baptist Church where he participated in numerous church activities. His interests included photography, computers, caring for his pet dogs and special times with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Queen is survived by his father: Eugene Queen of Memphis and his sisters, Vicki Queen and Christi Queen, both of Memphis.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Donnie Chalk, John Knopf, Stanley Mills, Morgan Paradise, Leo Walker, Thomas Walker and Lonnie Williams.
