James Franklin Sexton, known to many as Jim and J.F. Sexton, resident of Horn Lake, Mississippi, retired employee for Mason-Dixon Truck Lines and related to the Montague Family of Fayette County departed this life Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2013 at the DeSoto HealthCare Center where he resided since April of this year. He was 79 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Sexton were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, June 26th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Bobby Waddell of Southaven, Mississippi officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Sexton was born December 6, 1933 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was the son of Homer Sexton and his mother, the former Lucille Montague, who was a native of the Somerville Community. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and attended Humes High School in Memphis.
Mr. Sexton was associated with the trucking industry for much of his life and was employed as a long-distance truck operator for the Mason-Dixon Truck Lines of Kingsport, Tennessee. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Hernando Masonic Lodge. In earlier years, he enjoyed car racing and owned a racing vehicle. He was an avid shuffleboard player and had a passion for riding motorcycles as long as health permitted. He was a lifelong resident of North Mississippi and West Tennesse and enjoyed the companionship of his pet dog, “Precious”.
Mr. Sexton is survived by two daughters, Heather Stricklen (Bobby) of Horn Lake, MS, Athena Sue Sexton of Nashville; his son, James “Butch” Sexton (Teresa) of Nashville; his sister, Betty Ann Martin of Cordova, former resident of Somerville; and two grandchildren, Neely Williams and Bentley Stricklen. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Music.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers included Brad Elrod, Michael McQuirter and Baron Johnson and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
