James Taylor

April 11, 1924 — July 7, 2016

James Taylor, age 92, resident of Somerville and husband of the late Marie Jones Taylor and the late Margaret Hardin Taylor, departed this life Thursday morning, July 7, 2016 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance with Military Recognition for Mr. Taylor were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Warren Community Church in Somerville with Dr. Kenneth Culver, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Taylor was born April 11, 1924 in Stantonville, Tennessee. He received his education in the McNairy County Public School System and served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. He was employed as a crane operator for many years before his retirement. Mr. Taylor was a longtime resident of the West Tennessee area and was a member of the Oakland First Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards, especially Rook.

Mr. Taylor is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Ann Stackley and her husband, Lou Stackley III, of Somerville, Nancy Surtees of Lewisville, Texas; his son, Slater Lee Taylor of Somerville; two step-daughters, Lola Putt and her husband, Larry, of Somerville, Regina Jenkins and her husband, Richard, of Somerville; his step-son, Eddie Hardin and his wife, Carolyn, of Memphis; five grandchildren, Louis Stackley IV and his wife, Adrian, of Somerville, Robert Brimhall of Galva, Illinois, Christine Giron and her husband, Thomas, of Lewisville, Texas, James Norman Surtees and his wife, Lisa, of Cedar Hill, Texas, Jennifer Bradshaw of Lewisville, Texas; ten great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Taylor, who he married October 19, 1941 and she died on May 20, 2002; his second wife, Margaret Hardin Taylor, who he married October 25, 2002 and she died on April 23, 2012; his parents, John Carroll Taylor and Zeldia Mae Jones Taylor; and his brother, Slater Eugene Taylor.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Louis Stackley IV, Joey Janey, Matthew Armour, William Barron, Sr., Brian Culver and Blake Barron. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Doyle, Bob White and Bob Kirkwood.
