James Meade Tobias, age 85, resident of Como, Mississippi and husband of the late Patty Tobias, departed this life Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Tobias will be conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Dave Biter, music minister at the First Baptist Church Hickory Withe, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery near Germantown. A visitation for Mr. Tobias will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Tobias was born June 26, 1930 in Memphis, Tennessee. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 until 1953 and was employed as a carpenter for much of his life. He enjoyed outdoor activities that included hunting, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Tobias is survived by his daughter, Melinda Tobias of Oakland, Tennessee; his son, James Tobias, Jr. of Oakland, Tennessee; three sisters, Sue Jones, Katherine Conner, Dorothy Hall; two brothers, George Tobias (Yank), Joe Tobias; two grandchildren, Jennifer Voelz and her husband, Patrick, James Tobias III and his wife, Rose; four great-grandchildren, Dinisha Voelz, Nicole Voelz, Adden Tobias, Emily Zada Tobias; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Patty Tobias; his parents, Jay Meade Tobias and Francis Bates Tobias; and two sisters, Helen and Marie.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Allen Railey, Darryl Bledsoe, Patrick Voelz, Terry Smith, Ricky Tobias and Tim Fish.
