James Cobb Howell, age 94, resident of the Somerville Community, former resident of Frayser, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, January 27, 2015 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Howell will be conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, January 31st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. A Private Interment will be in the Forest Hill East Cemetery in Memphis. A visitation for Mr. Howell will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, January 30th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Howell was born August 29, 1920 in Yalobusha, Mississippi and was from the "driver's flat" community in Calhoun County, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Cobb Howell and Sudie Cordis Camp Howell. He was married in September 1944 to the former Erma Clara Morgan, who preceded him in death. Mr. Howell was a Mason since 1957. He was a longtime resident of the Frayser Community and was a member of Rugby Hills Baptist Church in Memphis.
Mr. Howell is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Montgomery of Vero Beach, Florida; his son, James Howell (Connie) of Somerville; four grandchildren, Jennifer Angela Robinson, Wesley Howell, Will Howell, Sam Howell; and two great grandsons, Marcus Randolph Robinson III and Logan James Robinson.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be David Herring, Sam Howell, Wesley Howell, Will Howell, Jerry Monday, Gene Quarles, Logan James Robinson, Marcus Randolph Robinson III and James Simmons.
