James Arthur Carpenter, known by friends as Jim or Crickett Carpenter, a resident of the Bolivar Community, former resident of Somerville and retired auto sales owner in Somerville died Thursday afternoon, August 2, 2012 at his residence. He was 73 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Carpenter were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, August 11th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with remarks given by Bro. Loyd Shelton of Rossville, Tennessee. Interment was in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Carpenter was born May 26, 1939 in Water Valley, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.V. Carpenter and Suejenia White Carpenter. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a 1957 graduate of Bartlett High School. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1966 and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Carpenter was associated with automobile sales for over 40 years and served as a salesman and owner for the Affordable Auto Sales in Somerville before his retirement three years ago. His interests included following University of Tennessee Football and music. He also received pleasure from caring for his pets.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by four sons, Dayrel Carpenter of Memphis, William Carpenter of Mason, Gregory J. Carpenter of Oakland, Michael Carpenter of Arlington; his sister, Betty Summers of Byhalia, MS; his brother, William H. Carpenter of Mountain View, AR; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
