JAMES (JIM) ARTHUR KNOTT

JAMES ARTHUR (JIM) KNOTT, a resident of the Bartlett Community with extended family members in Fayette and Hardeman Counties and longtime Employee of the Armour & Company in Memphis died at 4:37 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2009 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where he had been a patient for ten days. He was 85 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Knott were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, March 30th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Danny Linville, Pastor of the Crystal Springs Baptist Church at Bartlett, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

A native of Hardeman County, Tennessee Mr. Knott was born May 24, 1923 in the Toone Community, the son of the late Arthur W. Knott and the late Mittie Waller Knott. He was educated in the Hardeman County Public School System and was married March 15, 1948 to the former Annie Freeman, a native of Bolivar and longtime Beautician before her retirement, who survives.

Mr. Knott was employed by the Armour & Company Meat Packers in Memphis, for over thirty-six years, before his retirement. He had been a resident of the Memphis and Bartlett areas for much of his life and was of the Christian Faith.

Mr. Knott will be remembered for his enjoyment of riding four-wheelers and fishing and hunting in earlier years. He was an avid traveler with his family and received pleasure from caring for his pet dog.

In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, Mr. Knott is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Harville (Ronnie) of Bartlett and Bonnie White (Larry) of Lakeland, TN; his sister, Barbara Steward of West Memphis, Arkansas; four grandchildren: Jeff Harville, Kimberly Arbelaez, Amy Moore and Holly Mills and five great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family request that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
