James Warren “Jim” Thompson, age 81, resident of Somerville and husband of Barbara Thornton Thompson, departed this life Friday morning, March 25, 2016 at the Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Thompson were conducted at 12 Noon Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Somerville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the church, officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Carl Doyle of Oakland. Interment followed in the Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Thompson was born January 29, 1935 in Memphis. He served his country as a young person in the United States Air Force and received his BA Degree in Accounting at Memphis State University. He was the owner of Thompson Real Estate for many years before his retirement and was a member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church. Mr. Thompson was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and enjoyed farming, golfing and reading.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Thornton Thompson of Somerville; two daughters, Jamye Smith (Mark) of Lynchburg, Virginia, Tammy Carlton (Gary) of Somerville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Wiley Nash Thompson and Mrs. Carl Hines; his son, James “Jim” Thompson and his sister, Marietta Venezia.
Pallbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
