JAMES WILLIAM (JIM) WINGROVE, a resident of the Oakland Community, retired Aeronautical Engineer and United States Army Veteran died at 11:45 P.M. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for one day. He was 81 years of age and died following a ten-day illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Wingrove were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, March 25th at the Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland where he was an active member. Rev. Michael Pence, Pastor of the church, officiated. A private interment will occur at a later date. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Wingrove was born November 6, 1927 in Grand Rapids Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlington E. Wingrove and Thelma McLaughlin Wingrove.

After graduating from High School, he received his Bachelor's Degree from the California State University at Los Angeles and completed his Master's Degree at Scarritt College in Nashville.

He was married August 16, 1957 to the former Jane Paterson of Pearl River, New York, a retired Educator, who survives.

Mr. Wingrove served as an Aeronautical Engineer for much of his life with companies that included Hughes Helicopter and Aerojet Company. For the last twenty years he enjoyed being self employed as an entrepreneur.

Mr. and Mrs. Wingrove had been residents of Fayette County since 2004 moving to this area to be near their daughter and son-in-law; Amy and Rob Martin.

Mr. Wingrove was active in several United Methodist Churches throughout his life, serving as lay leader and lay delegate in California and Tennessee.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed sailing, body surfing, cooking, reading, camping and hiking.

In addition to his wife of fifty-one years, Mr. Wingrove is survived by his daughter, Amy Wingrove Martin (Rev. Bob Martin) of Paris, TN; his son, James Alan Wingrove (Tracy) of Sunnyvale, CA; two sisters, Janet Marx of Escondido, CA and Peggy Gray of Boulder City, NV; his brother, Alan Wingrove of Escondido, CA and four grandchildren: Brittany Martin, Katie Wingrove, Ashley Martin and Ryan Wingrove.
