James William "Jimmy" Traylor, III, age 69, resident of Oakland and husband of Constance "Connie" Smith Traylor, departed this life Wednesday evening, April 5, 2017 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
A Funeral Mass for Mr. Traylor was held at 11 A.M. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville with Father Stephen Kenny, pastor of the Church, officiating. A Private Interment was in the Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery in Bartlett. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Traylor was born February 15, 1948 in Millington, Tennessee. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and received decorations for valor and meritorious service. After his military service, Mr. Traylor was a fireman in Texas for 23 years before returning to the Memphis area with his family. Mr. Traylor was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church and the American Legion.
Jimmy and Connie married on April 20, 1974, and joyfully welcomed their son, James William “Billy” Traylor, IV into the world on September 10, 1989. Jimmy was an enthusiastic gardener and fisherman.
Mr. Traylor is survived by his wife of 42 years, Constance “Connie” Smith Traylor of Oakland, TN; his son, James William Traylor, IV of Oakland, TN; his sister, Jo Ann Baker (Charles) of Germantown, TN; his brother, Denis Traylor (Tina) of Memphis, TN; and his sister-in-law, MaryAnn Traylor of Eads, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James William Traylor II and Mary Kathrine Glancy Traylor and his brother, Charles Traylor.
