Jane Johnston Garnett Baggerman, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late William F. Baggerman died Wednesday morning, April 25, 2012 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville. She was 84 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Baggerman were conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, April 27th at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Somerville with the Rev. Bruce McMillan of Holly Springs officiating. A Private Interment was in the Melrose Cemetery at Whiteville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Baggerman was born December 13, 1927 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Benton Johnston and Lucile Atkins Johnston, early residents of the Whiteville Community. Mrs. Baggerman’s father served as an auditor for the State of Tennessee and will be remembered as a well known writer and poet in the Hardeman and Fayette County areas and throughout Tennessee.
She received her education in the Whiteville Public School System and at Transylvania University in Lexington, KY and was first married to William Reeves (Rutt) Garnett of Fayette County, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Baggerman was a former resident of Paris, TN and Sarasota, FL and returned to Fayette County in recent years to be near her family.
She was a retired employee of the State Park System and was also employeed by the Commercial Bank & Trust Company in Paris, TN in earlier years. She was an Episcopalian and was a Communicant of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Somerville. Mrs. Baggerman was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and a member of the Somerville Garden Club.
Mrs. Baggerman is survived by her son, William Rutledge “Sputt” Garnett and wife, Barbara of Somerville; two grandchildren, Eva G. Argo and husband, Ethan of Somerville, James Reeves Garnett and wife, Diana of Hendersonville, TN; and great grandchildren, Jalen Prather, Jacob Prather, Julia Garnett, Emily Jane Garnett and one great grandchild soon to arrive.
