Ethel Janie Taylor Dilliard, resident of the Somerville Community, retired seamstress and wife of the late Clifton O. Dilliard departed this life Thursday afternoon, April 4, 2013 at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for four days. She was 89 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services Honoring the Life of Mrs. Dilliard were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, April 7th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Chris Coil of the Somerville Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Dilliard was born January 8, 1924 in Macon, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Legette Taylor and Cora Emiline Sain Taylor. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married September 6, 1941 to Clifton Orrell Dilliard. Mr. Dilliard preceded her in death on November 27, 2003.
Mrs. Dilliard was a dedicated member of the Somerville Church of Christ, where she participated in numerous church activities as long as health permitted. She was employed as a seamstress for the Troxel Manufacturing Company for a number of years before her retirement. Mrs. Dilliard will be remembered as a devoted homemaker throughout her life and her interests included gardening, flowers, fishing, preparing food for family and friends and travels. She dearly loved her family and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her Christian testimony greatly influenced the lives of her entire family.
Mrs. Dilliard is survived by two daughters, Ann McNabb Adams of Somerville, Mary Clements Byrd (Jim) of Somerville; two sons, Jerry Wayne Dilliard (Barbara) of Williston, Clifton David Dilliard (Melanie) of Oakland; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Bell Henry, Cassie Chambers, Frances Hilliard, Opal Tapp; and three brothers, Tant Taylor, Lloyd Taylor and Marvin Taylor.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Kevin Clements, Brian Clements, Charlie Dilliard, Jerry E. Dilliard, Mark McNabb and Joey McNabb.
Honorary casketbearers were Dr. Harold Shivers, George Adams, Elliott Lambert, Darrell Beard, Jim Byrd and Joseph McNabb.
