Jan Rodney Criner, age 67, resident of Oakland, went home to be with the Lord on January 19, 2016 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Criner were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment was private. After the services, Mr. Criner's family hosted a celebration gathering of friends to share food and memories. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Criner was born July 31, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee and was preceded in death by his parents, J.R. Criner and Alma Louise Joyner Criner. He was a graduate of Treadwell High School in Memphis and continued his education by completing the IBEW Apprenticeship Program. Mr. Criner was always an entrepreneur, starting at 15 years of age by cleaning apartment windows and progressed to becoming one of the youngest electrical contractors at 35 years of age. He continued in ths electrical business for many years while residing in Memphis. His personality, graciously giving attitude, fun loving ways, gained him much admiration from his friends and family.
Mr. Criner is survived by his daughter, Michelle Work (David) of Somerville; his son, Jason Rodney Criner (Megan) of Lakeland; his sister, Jamie Ruth Cowan of Memphis; his brother, Douglas Criner (Roswitha) of Memphis; and two grandsons, Charles David Work, III and Andrew Luke Work, both of Somerville.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor, Bethesda, Maryland 20814 or the IBEW Local 474 Scholarship Fund, 1870 Madison Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38104.
