J. C. WEBB, JR., a resident of the Hebron/Bethlehem Community in Fayette County, a United States Veteran and husband of Margie Roberson Webb died Tuesday morning October 9, 2007 at his residence on Akin Road. He was 78 years of age and died following an extended illness.


Funeral services for Mr. Webb were conducted at 3 P.M. Thursday, October 11th at the Graveside with Rev. Walter H. German, retired United Methodist Minister of Jackson, TN., officiating. Interment, with Military Honors followed in the Old Shiloh Cemetery on Yum Yum Road in Fayette County. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel.


Mr. Webb was born April 9, 1929 in Germantown, TN., the son of the late J.C. Webb, Sr. and the late Dorothy Fannie Inzer Webb. He was educated in the Shelby County Public School system and was a graduate of the Bartlett High School. He was married June 26, 1953 to the former Margie Roberson of Fayette County, who survives.


Mr. Webb served in the United States Navy as a young person and was a resident of Paris, Michigan for a number of years where he was employed as a Foreman in the Corrosion Area of the American Natural Resources Pipeline-El Paso Gas. After Mr. Webb's retirement, he and his wife returned to Fayette County where they had resided since 1983. Active in community, religious and civic affairs throughout his life, Mr. Webb was instrumental in the formation of the Piperton United Methodist Church, where he had served in various church activities that included Sunday School Teacher and Director. He was a former active member of the Optimist Club and the Jaycees Organization.


In addition to his wife of 54 years, Mr. Webb is survived by two daughters: Jean Everett Webb Roberts and Linda Kay Webb Valdez, both of Somerville; two sons, Ronald Webb of Somerville and Timothy Kyle Webb, Sr. of Hersey, Michigan; his sister, Peggy Hart of Collierville; two brothers: Eugene Webb of Enid, MS. and William Webb of Nashville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by a brother, James Everett Webb.


Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Robert Holden, Wendell Crook, Lee Akin, Tim Dowdy, Tim Webb and "Buzz" Merchlewitz.
