JAMES DONALD "DON" BURRISS, a resident of the Moscow Community and retired Alpha Corporation Executive died at 3 P.M. Monday, November 24, 2008 at his residence on Price Road. He was 71 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Burriss were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, November 29th at the Moscow United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Griffith, Pastor of the church, officiating. Personal remarks were given by a son, Jim Burriss and by Mr. Burriss' brother, Bruce Burriss. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Burriss was born November 28, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Reda Watkins Burriss and the late James Thomas Burriss. He received his education in the Bexley, Ohio Public School System and was a Graduate of Ohio State University, receiving his Degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Burriss was a former resident of Germantown before moving to the Moscow Community. He served in Executive positions for the Alpha Corporation at Piperton for twenty-seven years before retiring four years ago. He was a resident of Germantown from 1977 to 2004 where he was a member of the Germantown United Methodist Church and attended the Moscow United Methodist Church after moving to Fayette County.
Mr. Burriss was an avid Ohio State University Buckeye fan-and will be remembered for his enjoyment of nature, animals and all wildlife.
Survivors of Mr. Burriss include three sons: Jim Burriss of Moscow and Bill Burriss and Bob Burriss, both of Collierville; his brother, Bruce Burriss of Columbus, OH; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Tom, Michael, Calvin, Al and Andrew Burriss and Jay Weber.
