Jean Lester Yarbrough Colburn, longtime resident of the Somerville Community, retired from the Bank of Mason and wife of the late Byron Colburn, Jr., departed this life Friday evening, August 15, 2014 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville where she had been a patient for two days. She was 89 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Colburn were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, August 19th at the Somerville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Colburn was born February 24, 1925 in Stanton, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Eric Yarbrough and Sophia Edna Wright Yarbrough. She received her education in the Tipton County, Tennessee Public School System and was a gradute of the Byars Hall High School, class of 1942. She was married August 11, 1944 to Byron Colburn, Jr., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Colburn was employed as a teller for the Bank of Mason for over 40 years before her retirement in 1985. She was a resident of the Somerville Community for 57 years and was an active member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church where she participated in activities that included the Chancel Choir and the Royal Heirs. Mrs. Colburn will be remembered as a world traveler who enjoyed playing Bridge and needlework.
Mrs. Colburn is survived by her daughter, Patsy Colburn Wallace (Gary) of Covington, TN; two granddaughters, Debra Hill (Bobby) of Hendersonville, TN, Miriam Painter (Bobby) of Jackson, TN; two great grandchildren, Erica Hubbard, Robert "Tre" Painter; and her great great grandson, Sebastian Hubbard.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jerry Morgan, Charles Morgan, Brannon Morgan, Bobby Hill, Bobby Painter and Tré Painter.
Honorary casketbearers were Gary Morgan and Jimmy Colburn.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville First United Methodist Church, 202 S. East Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
