Jeremy Ray Farris, a resident of Highway 64 near Somerville and employed through the Local Union 90 in Memphis, died at 7 P.M. Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Methodist University Hospital Central in Memphis where he had been a patient since September 24th. He was 28 years of age and died following an extended illness of several years.
Funeral services for Mr. Farris were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, October 21st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with the Rev. Freddie Clifft, Pastor of the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes - West Chapel of Oakland.
Jeremy was born April 21, 1980 in Memphis, the son of the former Terri Lynn Bryson of Somerville and Billy Ray Farris. He was educated in the Hardeman County Public School System and was a Graduate of the Bolivar Central High School. Jeremy was a lifelong resident of Hardeman and Fayette Counties and was of the Baptist Faith. He was employed by the Asbestos Workers of America and a member of the Local Union 90 located in Memphis.
Jeremy will be remembered for his love of outdoor activities that included hunting, fishing, football and all sports. He had a close relationship with his nieces and nephews and enjoyed special times with his friends and family. Drawing, drafting and telephone conversations with his many friends during his lengthy illness restored his spirit, and his positive attitude served as an inspiration to many.
Jeremy is survived by his mother, Terri Lynn Bryson Farris of Somerville; his father, Billy Ray Farris of Clifton, TN; his sister, Heather Lynn Geyer of Somerville; two brothers, Joshua Farris of Jackson, TN and Kevin James Farris of Somerville; his grandmother, Peggy Glover Bryson of Somerville; his step-grandmother, Eva Farris of Hornsby, TN; two nephews, Jacob German and Jonathan Geyer and one niece, Alexis Farris.
He was preceded in death by both of his grandfathers, Alfred R. "Rip" Bryson and Billy Gene Farris and his grandmother Peggy Lou Farris.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Larry Elrod, Jason Murry, Anthony German, Joseph Williams, Chad Ray, Eric Walls, Shannon Dodge and Atlas Shields.
Honorary casketbearers were Cedric Cox, Shane German and Alan Henson.
