Jerry Glynn King, age 75, resident of the Oakland Community, retired United States Postal Service mail carrier and husband of Elizabeth A. Sharp King, departed this life Sunday morning, January 25, 2015 at his residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. King will be conducted at 12 Noon Friday, January 30th at the Ellendale Church of Christ in Bartlett with visitation one hour before services. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. King was born June 22, 1939 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, the son of Martha Louise Holland King and the late Hurley Louis King. He received his education in the Dyer County Public School System. He was a graduate of Newbern High School and attended community college in Pensacola, Florida. He was married July 5, 1963 to the former Elizabeth A. Sharp, who survives. Mr. King was a resident of Oakland for many years and was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service before his retirement. He served his country in the United States Navy as a young person and was a member of the Ellendale Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife of 51 years, Mr. King is survived by two daughters, Leslie Royal (Steve) of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Marsha King-Apple (Gary) of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; his son, Jeffrey King (Sandra) of Lone Oak, Arkansas; his mother, Martha Louise King of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two sisters, Carolyn West of Memphis, Elaine Tibbs (John) of Jackson, Tennessee; his brother, Billy King (Janice) of Newbern, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Tyler King, Justin King, Colleen, Royal, Bryan King, Corey King, Drew Royal, Brad Royal; and his great grandson, Tytus King.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Tyler King, Justin King, Bryan King, Corey King, Drew Royal and Brad Royal.
Honorary casketbearers will be Colleen Royal and Tytus King.
