Jerry Emmett Shepard, resident of Memphis, retired fence company owner and husband of the former Carolyn Beake of Fayette County died Sunday evening, January 30, 2011 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was 71 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Shepard were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, February 4th at the Christian Heritage Church on Houston Levee Road in Germantown with Pastor Manuel Pate of the church officiating. Interment followed in the Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of Helena, Arkansas, Mr. Shepard was born November 22, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Shepard and Delphia Johnson Shepard. Mr. Shepard was a graduate of the Phillips County, Arkansas Public School System and was married July 9, 1965 to the former Carolyn Beake, employee of the Internal Revenue Service, who survives. In earlier years Mr. Shepard was associated with his father in the operation of Airways Fence Company in Memphis and before his retirement owned and operated the ABC Fence Company in Memphis.
He was a member of the Christian Heritage Church and his interests included movies, water sports, boxing, traveling and flying. Mr. Shepard will be remembered as a family oriented person who enjoyed fellowship with both family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, Mr. Shepard is survived by three sisters: Margaritte Julius (David) of Maryville, IL, Phyllis Carruth (Glen) of Biscoe, AR, Patsy Leighow (Danny) of Mountain View, AR; three brothers: Arlie King (Linda) of St. Louis, MO, William King (Ann) of Pensacola, FL, Calvin Shepard (Teresa) of Greeneville, TN and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Shepard was also preceded in death by his brother, Clifton Shepard.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Mike Carruth, Keith Davis, Arlie King, Kenneth King, Jerry Miller and Calvin Shepard.
