Jerry Lynn Smith

February 18, 1942 — January 15, 2013

Jerry Lynn Smith, resident of Memphis, with extended family members in Fayette County and retired City of Memphis employee departed this life Tuesday afternoon, January 15, 2013 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Memphis. He was 70 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Smith were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, January 20th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Wayne Webb of the Macon Road Baptist Church at Arlington officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Smith was born February 18, 1942 in Ripley, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest N. Smith and Dorothy Escue Smith. He received his education in the Memphis City Public School System and lived in Memphis for most of his life. He was married July 12, 1963 to the former Carolyn Holmes, retired secretary for Macon Road Baptist Church, who survives.

Mr. Smith was employed as a land surveyor for the City of Memphis for over 40 years before his retirement in 2005. He was a longtime member of the Macon Road Baptist Church and will be remembered for his devotion to his family.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Thomas Smith of Memphis; two brothers, Forrest Allen Smith of Memphis, Russell Smith of Goodlettsville, TN; and many friends that he developed through his employment and extended church family.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Thomas Bevis, Travis Cain, Danny Cleek, Terry Ginn, Chris Gurley and Ed Taylor.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Macon Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 11015 Highway 64, Arlington, TN 38002.
