Jessie Alton “Alan” Mitchell, age 69, resident of Memphis and husband of Patricia Taylor Mitchell, departed this life Monday morning, January 23, 2017 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Mitchell were conducted at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, January 26, 2017 with Bro. Bobby Williams, pastor of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Moscow, officiating. Interment followed in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Mitchell was born February 23, 1947 in Brent, Alabama. He received his education at Wells Station Elementary School and was a graduate of Millington High School. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was employed as a construction contractor for many years. Mr. Mitchell was married November 20, 1989 to the former Patricia Taylor and he enjoyed building things, hunting, shooting guns and preparing food.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Patricia Taylor Mitchell of Memphis, TN; his son, Patrick Mitchell (Crystal) of Grand Junction, TN; two stepdaughters, Angie King (James) of Horn Lake, MS, Becky Sherman (Bobby) of Bartlett, TN; his sister, Sherrie “Diane” Kelley of Smithville, MO; two grandchildren, Lanie Beth Mitchell, Maxwell Connor Mitchell; and his step-grandchildren, Dustin King (Timberlie) of Horn Lake, MS, Hunter King of Horn Lake, MS, Darren Sherman (Kayla) of Bartlett, TN and Summer Sherman of Bartlett, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Clifford Mitchell and Mary Elizabeth Dunn Stewart and two brothers, Sonny Mitchell and Bo Mitchell.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Wendell Mills, Michael Mills, Vince Mills, Chris Mills, Trey Yager and Patrick Mitchell.
