Somerville, Tennessee

Jimmy Leon Rogers, Sr., age 75, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and husband of Joan Rogers, departed this life Saturday, February 5, 2022 at his home.

Jimmy was born October 19, 1946 in Somerville, the son of the late Clifton Edward Rogers and Ethel Elizabeth Stainback Rogers. He attended Parks School in Fayette County. He was a Vietnam veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star and retired from the United States Army as an E7 Sergeant First Class in the motorpool. During his military career he was stationed in Germany, Korea, Vietnam and multiple states across the U.S.  He was married December 15, 1966 to the former Joan Pallante and was of the Presbyterian faith. Jimmy was employed as a deputy sheriff for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department as a jailer and then was a litter control officer. He loved the outdoors and working with his hands, tinkering with cars, crappie fishing and deer hunting.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan Rogers of Somerville, TN; two daughters, Tina Marie Hope (Andy) of Memphis, TN and Tammy Michelle Hanrahan of Atoka, TN; his son, Jimmy Leon Rogers, Jr. (Shanon) of Munford, TN; his sister, Willie Sue Shelby of Somerville, TN; his brother, Jerry Lee Rogers of Somerville, TN; his favorite granddaughter, Megan Ward (James); favorite grandsons, Jason Hanrahan, Joshua Hanrahan, Ashton Rogers and Avery Rogers; and his favorite great-grandson, Benton Ward.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy Rogers, Earl Rogers, Lowell Rogers and Jack Rogers and his son-in-law, Mike Hanrahan.

A visitation for Mr. Rogers will be from 12 noon until 2 P.M. Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Funeral Services for Mr. Rogers will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with David Reeves, pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. He will be assisted by Bro. Terry Logan. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community of Fayette County.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Jason Hanrahan, Josh Hanrahan, Ashton Rogers, Avery Rogers, Andy Hope and James Ward. The honorary pallbearers will be Ed Gaugh, Benton Ward, Jerry Rogers Sr., Eddie Rogers Sr., Jerry Rogers Jr., Timmy Rogers, Eddie Rogers Jr., Robbie Rogers and Tim McNabb.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society, 5101 Wheelis Drive, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38117.
