Jo Carol Ray McClain, age 80, resident of Oakland, Tennessee and wife of the late D.A. McClain, departed this life Sunday evening, December 29, 2024 at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee.
Jo Carol was born June 27, 1944 in Paris, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Woodson Ray and Ruth Wimberly Ray. She graduated in 1962 from E.W. Grove High School in Paris, Tennessee and was employed as a librarian for a number of years before her retirement. She was married May 1, 1965 to D.A. McClain who preceded her in death on April 27, 2017.
Mrs. McClain was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Hickory Withe Baptist Church in Eads, Tennessee where she had many friends in Sunday School. She enjoyed gardening, raising blueberries, working with flowers, baking and feeding birds. She was an avid reader who loved spending time with her family. Jo Carol loved her group of friends who affectionately called themselves the “Magnolias” and she had many precious memories with her beloved pet, Angel. Jo Carol will be remembered for being the most selfless person who loved and adored her family and dog.
Mrs. McClain is survived by her daughter, Stacey Wright (Tommy) of Germantown, TN; her son, Mark McClain of Williston, TN; four grandchildren, Sarah Ashley Wright of Germantown, TN, Cameron Wright (Gretchen) of Collierville, TN, Landon Wright of Birmingham, AL and Hunter McClain of Chattanooga, TN; her great-grandchild, Sayler Wright; a special aunt, Peggy Hall; and her beloved pet, Angel.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Ray.
Memorial Services for Mrs. McClain were held at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Carl Doyle officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Hunter McClain, Landon Wright, Cameron Wright, Mark Long and Don Fletcher.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, National Headquarters, 6520 N. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2132.
