Joan Arlette McFarlane McKnight, resident of the Arlington Community and wife of the late Albert James McKnight, departed this life Thursday evening, January 23, 2014 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where she had been a patient for four days. She was 82 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. McKnight were conducted at 1 P.M. Monday, January 27th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Father Stephen Kenny, priest at the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Burrow Cemetery in the Burrowtown Community of Fayette County. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. McKnight was born December 8, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward McFarlane and Mildred Alice Ryan McFarlane. She received her education in the Chicago, Illinois Public School System and was married on Christmas Day, December 25, 1947 to Albert James McKnight. They were blessed with over 64 years of marriage and Mr. McKnight was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired employee of American Telephone & Telegraph before his death on June 27, 2012.
Mrs. McKnight was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who had a special love for her grandchildren. She was a lifelong Catholic and had been a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bartlett at the time of the death. She had been a resident of the Arlington Community for the past 38 years. Her interests included sewing, gardening, shopping and traveling.
Mrs. McKnight is survived by three daughters, Susan Baldridge of Arlington, Barbara May (John) of Arlington, Mary Parker of Covington; her brother, Jim McFarlane (Judy) of Chicago, IL; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy McKnight Pinner.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were William Green, John May, Tyler Green, Arthur Baldridge, Bill Pinner, Jonathan Bishop, Adam Baldridge, Zack Bishop and Nate Bishop.
Honorary casketbearers were Steve Hawkins and Lee Newcomb.
