Joann (McCarter) Wages

Joann McCarter Wages, resident of the Oakland Community and wife of Eber Wages died Wednesday afternoon, September 26, 2012 at the Methodist Hospice Residence. She was 80 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Wages were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Ray Peters, minister of the Macon Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Wages was born February 18, 1932 in Middleton, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aubra Jennings McCarter and Sadie Pipkin McCarter. She received her education in the Hardeman County Public School System and was married at an early age to Eber Wages, retired machine operator for Nickey Brothers and Wabash Screen and Door Company in Memphis before his retirement.
Mr. and Mrs. Wages were residents of Memphis for a number of years before moving to the Oakland-Macon Communities of Fayette County 25 years ago. She was a dedicated homemaker and a member of the Macon Church of Christ. Mrs. Wages was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing and crocheting, sharing her handmade pieces with family members and friends. Her most cherished memories were made around the family she held most dear. Those who knew her best were blessed by her warm smile and uplifting spirit. Flower and vegetable gardening, nature and outdoor activities were favorite pastimes.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, Mrs. Wages is survived by her daughter, Susan Wright (Wayne) of Oakland; her son, Sam Wages of Oakland; her sister, Martha Folsom of Oakland; her brother, Jimmy Marshall of Chattanooga; and her grandson, Jordan T. Wright of Oakland.
Mrs. Wages was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
