Joanna Faye Buttress Williams, age 91, resident of Southaven, Mississippi and wife of the late James E. Williams, departed this life Sunday evening, March 8, 2015 at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Williams were conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, March 12th at the Christ Community Baptist Church in Collierville with Bro. David Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery near Germantown. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Williams was born August 13, 1923 in Spiro, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Buttress and Mary Mulkey Buttress. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma and was the wife of James E. Williams for 67 years before his death. She was a resident of Southaven for a number of years and was a member of Whitehaven Baptist Church in Memphis where she was involved in the Women's Missionary Union (WMU). Mrs. Williams was employed as a bookkeeper for many years before her retirement and enjoyed gardening, flowers, animals and menagerie.
Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters, Wanda Cross (Tom) of Collierville, Bonnie Hampton (Don) of Cordova; two sons, Edward Williams of Memphis, Stephen Williams of Southaven, MS; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jason Williams.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Edward Swarner, Tommy Swarner, Bill Shipp, Ronnie Russell, Henry Russell and Ed Williams.
