Joe David Owens, age 84, resident of Moscow and husband of the late Jean Daniel Owens, departed this life Sunday evening, April 23, 2017 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Owens were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Bro. David Parlow, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Owens was born January 24, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, James David “Candy” Owens and Alva V. King Owens. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and served his country in the United States Air Force during peace time. He was married August 15, 1963 to the former Jean Daniel, who preceded him in death on February 17, 2017. Mr. Owens was a truck operator with Time D.C. for many years and at Transcon Trucking before his retirement. He enjoyed gardening and bird hunting.
Mr. Owens is survived by his stepson, Michael Gerald Williams of Moscow.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Billy McClure, Jimmy Skelton, Chris Morris, Ricky Ward, Bobby Crisp and Eugene Skelton. Honorary pallbearers included Johnny Morris.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1960 Oak Grove Drive, Moscow, TN 38057.
