John Thomas Blackley

August 30, 1971 — August 8, 2013

John Thomas “Johnny” Blackley, resident of Hernando, Mississippi,  independent contractor in the Memphis area for much of his life with extended family members in Fayette County departed this life Thursday evening, August 8, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was 41 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Blackley were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday August 13th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Chris Bennett of Christ the Rock Church in Collierville officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Blackley was born August 30, 1971 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Gene Blackley and Crystal Dyer Blackley. He received his education at Rossville Academy and was a lifelong resident of West Tennessee. He was a Christian and will be remembered as an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing.

A lifelong University of Alabama football fan, Coach “Bear” Bryant was his hero. A Christian, Mr. Blackley was involved in the forklift construction and contracting business in the greater Memphis area for much of his life. He will be remembered as a family-oriented person who was artistic and enjoyed writing poetry. He was an avid volleyball player.

Mr. Blackley is survived by his best friend and soul mate, Amy Putt of Collierville; two daughters, Kalli Blackley of West Helena, AR, Jada Mae Blackley of West Helena, AR; his son, Austin Blackley of West Helena, AR; four sisters, Shelia Wright of Hernando, MS, Lisa Blackley of Memphis, Denise Blackley of Olive Branch, MS, Danita Clark of Germantown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Bobby Wright, Jim Clark, Austin Blackley, Brian Yates, Paul Bostick, Ross Phillips, Brian Earnshaw and Logan Allen.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
