John Andrew Evans

John Andrew Evans, age 70, resident of Oakland, Tennessee and husband of Laura Cook Evans, departed this life Friday morning, January 19, 2018 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Evans was conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. The officiants were Pat Kendall, a pastor at Hope Church in Cordova, Mike Edmunson and Andy Saunders. Interment was private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Evans was born February 23, 1947 in Greenwood, Mississippi, the son of Edward William Evans and Haze Williams Evans. He served his country in the United States Air Force as a young person and received his education at Memphis State University. He was employed as a loan officer for many years before his retirement. He served as an alderman for the Town of Oakland for two terms and on the board at WIN (Work Investment Network) in Memphis. Mr. Evans was a member of Hope Church in Cordova and he enjoyed playing trivia, going to live theater productions, politics, listening to music of all kinds, watching sports, drinking coffee and helping others. He will be remembered for being a people-person.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife whom he married July 21, 2000, Laura Cook Evans of Oakland, TN; his son, John Claiborne Evans (Chrystal) of Chapmansboro, TN; his sister, Glenda Evans Spann (Albert) of Jackson, MS; and two granddaughters, Summer Evans and Addy Evans.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Fayette Literacy, 211 W. Market Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
