John Columbus Garner, resident of Selmer and husband of Carol Garner, departed this life Wednesday morning, September 24, 2014 at his residence. He was 86 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Garner were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, September 27th at the Garner Residence. Interment was private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Garner was born July 16, 1928 in McNairy, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Onie and Pearlie Garner. He received his education in the McNairy Public School System and was married November of 1979 to Carol Parker, who survives. Mr. Garner was a resident of the Selmer Community for 30 years and served as a farmer for much of his life before his retirement in 2009. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed gardening and fixing things.
In addition to his wife of 34 years, Mr. Garner is survived by his daughter, Johnnie Hopkins of Selmer; his sister, Ann Gallous (Jerry) of California; his brother, Lonnie Garner of Finger, TN; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mr. Garner was preceded in death by two daughters, JoAnne Sutton, Sue Shermerhorn; and two brothers, Dewey Garner and Arlie Garner.
