John Kirk Harvey

John Kirk Harvey, resident of Bentonville, AR, native Fayette Countian and United States Military Career Person died Sunday evening, January 15th, 2012 at his residence of his grandson in Bentonville. He was  89 years of age and died following an  illness of four months.

Services for Mr. Harvey were conducted at 3 P.M. Friday, January 20th, 2012 at the Graveside with Bro. Loyd Shelton, Baptist Minister of Rossville, officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Harvey was born March 21, 1922 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Willis Harvey and Ora Mae Kirk Harvey. He was a graduate of the Somerville High School where he was a member of the high school football team. He joined the United States Navy as a young person and served for 20 years in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer before his retirement. He served as a Bomber Torpedo Pilot during the World War II period.

A Christian, Mr. Harvey was married July 12, 1965 to the former Nina Mildred Hansen, a former employee of Ford Motor Company, who survives. Mr. Harvey was a resident of various locations during his military career and in later years served as a bookkeeper for the Windham Fence Company in Memphis before his retirement. He enjoyed outdoor activities and sports that included softball and bowling.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Mr. Harvey’s survivors include a grandson, Manny Windham of Bentonville, who served as a caregiver for Mr. Harvey in later years.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville City Cemetery, P.O. Box 909, Somerville, TN 38068 or to the Veteran’s Charitable Organization of the donor’s choice.
