JOHN DOUGLAS "JACK" SCHEIBEL, a resident of the Rossville Community, United States Veteran and a longtime electrician before his retirement, died at 6:30 P.M. Friday, October 12, 2007 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville where he had been a patient for one day. He was 81 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services and interment for Mr. Scheibel were private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Scheibel was a native of Syracuse, NY. He was born December 29, 1925 and was preceded in death by his parents, John J. Scheibel and Anna Green Scheibel. He was educated in the New York Public School system, a graduate of the Syracuse High School and completed courses as a master electrician in New York.
Mr. Scheibel was an electrician for many years before his retirement and was a 60 year member of the local Union of the IBEW # 43. He moved to Fayette County 2 years ago to be near his family and attended the Kirk Baptist Church near Rossville.
He served in the United States Army during the World War II Period and was an active member of the American Legion throughout his life. He was an avid traveler after his retirement and in earlier years served as a volunteer fireman in Syracuse. He was well known in bowling circles in the Syracuse area and was a recipient of the State Championship Bowling Award in New York State. A social person who enjoyed people throughout his life, Mr. Scheibel was an active member of the Syracuse Turners Athletic Club. He enjoyed both golfing and hunting as long as health permitted.
Survivors of Mr. Scheibel include four daughters: Janet Yeager (Dan) of Rossville, Joyce Scheibel of Atlanta, GA., Kathryn Scheibel of Fayetteville, AR. and Rosemary Dow of Ramstein, Germany; four sons: John M. Scheibel (Patricia) of Clay, NY., James Scheibel (Theresa) of Williamsburg, VA., Stephen Scheibel of Liverpool, NY. and Daniel Scheibel (Tonya) of Orrville, OH., 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Scheibel who died in 2000.
