John M. Miller, 81, died at his home on August 31, 2016. He was born on September 16, 1934 at Warren, OH, son of the late Mose and Sovilla (Yoder) Miller.
He was a faithful member of Whiteville Mennonite Church, where he served as a minister.
On November 24, 1955 he was married to Alta Hostetler. She survives. He is also survived by five children, Dan (Rhoda) Miller, Itasca, TX; Ellen (Simon) Schrock, Stuarts Draft, VA; Owen (Cheryl) Miller, Eureka, NV; Cora (Marvin) Chupp, Orrstown, PA; and Catherine (Merlin) Mast, Bolivar, TN. 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Dan (Esther) Hostetler; sisters-in-law, Barbara Miller, Cora (Joe) Miller; Mary (Crist) Detweiler; and Esther (Chester) Troyer.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Karl Chupp and a great-granddaughter, Aubree Weaver, one brother, Roman Miller, two brothers-in-law, Joe Miller and Melvin Hostetler; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Miller.
Mr. Miller was a dairy farmer until his move to Bolivar in 1997, where he started Homestead Enterprises, where he worked as a woodworker until late 2015. Mr. Miller was also active in prison ministry for many years. He served as chaplain at the Augusta County Jail in VA, and volunteered at various detention facilities including the Hardeman County Correction Facility.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Miller were conducted at 10 A.M. Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the Whiteville Mennonite Church with interment in the Mennonite Church Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
