John Wayne Morgan, Jr.

December 29, 1933 — August 5, 2015

John Wayne Morgan, Jr., age 81, resident of Spring, Texas and husband of Carol June Morgan, departed this life Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in Houston, Texas surrounded by his family.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Morgan were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, August 13th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Kent Bailey of Collierville officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Morgan was born December 29, 1933 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wayne Morgan, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Shinault Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Jeannie Shinault. Mr. Morgan attended Somerville High School and was the husband of 54 years to the former Carol June McMorries, who survives. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Period and his family were longtime Fayette County residents.

Mr. Morgan had a long career as a manufacturing representative and in the Oil industry. He loved history in general, but particularly loved southern and military history. As such, he was the family historian. He loved the south and enjoyed sharing information regarding over five generations of their family and humorous stories of growing up in Fayette County and the south. Mr. Morgan enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and horseback riding.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Morgan is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Morgan Bruns of Spring, TX, Nancy Caroline McBride of Denver, CO; step-daughter, Leann Leach of Edmond, OK; cousins, Ron and Sandra Shinault of Memphis, Bonnie Jean Walters of Mississippi; son-in-laws, Randy Bruns, Sean McBride; seven grandchildren, Brandee Bruns, Michael Bruns, Caroline McBride, Maclin McBride, Susannah McBride, Jason Leach, Erin Shaw Leach; great grandson, Samuel Shaw; and many loving friends.

Pallbearers were Sean McBride, Maclin McBride, Randy Bruns, Mark Cooper, Ron Shinault and Keith Morris.
