John Ray Soltow

March 14, 1924 — August 15, 2014

John Ray Soltow, age 90, resident of the Moscow Community, Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and husband of the late Jimmie Lou Raborn Soltow, died Friday afternoon, August 15, 2014 at the Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.   

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Soltow were conducted at 4 P.M. Monday, August 18th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Jack Moore, pastor of the First Baptist Church Fisherville, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.

Mr. Soltow was born March 14, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Soltow and Barbara Frances Mader Soltow. He received his education in the North Royalton, Ohio School System and served his country in the United States Air Force for 30 years during the World War II and the Korean War periods as a pilot and Lieutenant Colonel before his retirement in 1967.   

He was married November 1, 1953 to the former Jimmie Lou Raborn, a registered nurse for the United States Air Force, who preceded him in death on March 26, 2005. He was a resident of the Moscow Community since 1979 and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church near Rossville. Mr. Soltow was a dedicated serviceman who enjoyed flying airplanes while in the service, for pleasure and for Federal Express in later years. He enjoyed many outdoor activities that included camping, shooting guns, Formula One racing and fishing and had a special love for his dogs and all animals.   

Mr. Soltow is survived by his daughter, Barbara Morris and Michael Morris, son-in-law, of Moscow; his daughter-in-law, Debra Soltow of Lusby, Maryland; and two grandchildren, John M. Soltow and April N. Soltow.   

He was preceded in death by his son, John A. Soltow; and his sister, Evelyn Root.
