JOHN THOMAS STINES, a resident of Somerville, former resident of Oakland and husband of Peggy Stines, died at 7 A.M. Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Haywood Park Hospital in Brownsville where he had been a patient for three days. He was 72 years of age and died following year long illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Stines were conducted at 3 P.M. Wednesday, November 19th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Willie Raines of New Albany, Mississippi, former Pastor of the Faith Church of God in Somerville, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Rodney Vanwinkle, present Pastor of the Church. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery of the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Stines was born in Fayette County on February 15, 1936, the son of the late Buck Stines, Sr. and Audrey Johnson Stines. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married March 31, 1958 to the former Peggy Jean Thomas of Fayette County, who survives.

Mr. Stines was a lifelong resident of the Somerville and Oakland areas and was employed for a number of years in the Sanitation Department for the Town of Oakland. He served in the Tennessee National Guard in earlier years and was a longtime member of the Faith Church of God in Somerville.

A spiritual person with a deep love for his family, Mr. Stines enjoyed special times with his grandchildren and all out of door activities that included hunting, fishing and traveling.

In addition to his wife of fifty years, Mr. Stines is survived by his son, Tom Stines (Jennifer) of Somerville; two brothers, Bill Stines of Cookeville, TN; and Buck Stines, Jr. of Somerville and two grandchildren, Justin Thomas Stines and Jacob Hunter Stines.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Gus Woods, Jason Proctor, Johnny Yancey, Rudy Thomas, Ricky Proctor, Mark Lee and Donnie McCullough.
