John Deen Treadway, age 91, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and husband of the late Betty Lou Price Treadway, departed this life Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2022 at his home.
John was born October 13, 1930 in Whiteville, Tennessee, the son of the late Jack Roosevelt Treadway and Corrie Lavell Davis Treadway. He was raised in Hardeman County (Whiteville area) and served his country in the United States Army National Guard. John owned a convenience store in earlier years and was a farmer of all throughout his life – cotton, beans, corn and dairy. He helped independent farmers across the county and was also employed at Morris Lumber, Garner Houston Well Company, Robert Wilson-NewCastle Store and drove a school bus. He was a member and served as a Deacon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the District 15 Community and enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting and bird hunting.
Mr. Treadway is survived by his son, John C. Treadway (Cindy); two daughters, Marilyn Markle (Thomas) and Cindy Morgan; his sister, Liz Cowart; ten grandchildren, April Schmaltz (Matt), Dee Dickson (Jeff), Chris Markle (Lacy), Jim Bob Ferge (Jessica), Daniel Treadway (Amy), Whitney Treadway, Kirstin Morgan, Kelsey Morgan, Trey Treadway and Jordan Herron; and eight great-grandchildren, Gabbi Markle, Zane Markle (Julie), Kaleigh Treadway, Jack Schmaltz, Lauren Schmaltz, Kaylah Pittman, Addison Pittman and Natalie Pittman.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Willie Nichols and his twin sister, Geraldine Treadway and his brother, Lewis Treadway.
Funeral Services for Mr. Treadway were held at 11 A.M. Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The officiating ministers were Dr. Jack Price and Bro. Mickey Cossar. Interment with Military Honors followed in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Chris Markle, Daniel Treadway, Kelsey Morgan, Trey Treadway, Zane Markle and Jack Schmaltz. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Umbarger, Brandon Boggs, Matt Schmaltz, Jeff Dickson, Jerry Wilson, Larry “Bootsie” Price, Jimmy Hoskins, Johnny Bishop, James Weeks, Robert Roy, Pete Holland and Bin Holland.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 9580 Jernigan Drive, Somerville, TN 38068.
