John Edd Markle

John Edd Markle, age 87, resident of Lakeland and husband of the late Willie Lou Griffin Markle, departed this life Tuesday morning, December 13, 2016 at his residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Markle were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Cecil Bellew, pastor of the Chambers Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Chambers Chapel Cemetery at Lakeland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Markle was born September 30, 1929 in Fayette County, the only child of Clarabell Dennison Markle and Edgar L. Markle. He was married May 27, 1950 to Willie Lou Griffin Markle, who preceded him in death on November 14, 2012 after 61 years of marriage. The Markles did not have any children of their own, but were greatly loved by both sides of their extended families, including the children by Edgar L. Markle and Lillian Davis Markle - Clara Howell, Sarah Summers, Vader Oswalt, Dot Street, Charles Markle, Woodrow Markle (deceased) and Franklin Markle (deceased).
Mr. Markle is survived by his sisters, Clara Howell, Sarah Summers, Vader Oswalt (Neil), Dot Street (Dwight); his brother, Charles Markle (Carol); two sisters-in-law, Ruth Markle, Greta Markle; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Markle received his education in the Fayette County School System and was a lifelong resident of West Tennessee. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Conflict and was employed as a supervisor for the State of Tennessee Highway Department before his retirement. Mr. Markle was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed horses including judging horse shows and raising goats and quails.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Ronnie Markle, Gary Markle, O'Neil Markle, Justin Griffin, William Starnes and John Starnes.
