John "Johnny" Edwin Bowen, Jr.

John Edwin “Johnny” Bowen, Jr., age 66, resident of the Oakland Community and husband of Memee Bowen, departed this life Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis.

Services and Interment for Mr. Bowen were private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Bowen was born May 3, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of John Edwin Bowen, Sr. and Mary Stephens Bowen. He received his education in the Fulton County, Georgia Public School System and served in the United States Marine Corps for three tours in Vietnam. He was the husband of ten years to Sherri “Memee” Gooch Bowen, who survives. Mr. Bowen was employed as a truck operator for Bryce, Corporation for a number of years before his retirement. He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed horses.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bowen is survived by his parents, John Bowen, Sr. and Mary Stephens Bowen of Stockbridge, GA; two daughters, Cheryl Dorminey (Chad) of Hoganville, GA, Rachel Calhoun (Junior) of Kingsport, TN; two sons, Anthony Williams of Oakland, Joshua Dodd of Oakland; three brothers, Scott Bowen (Jane) of Concord, GA, William Bowen (Wanda) of McDonough, GA, Joseph Bowen of Stockbridge, GA; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gwendolyn Upchurch and Cheryl Bowen.
