JOHNNY ANN STARNES JONES, longtime resident of the Braden Community, retired employee of the Gallaway Healthcare Center and wife of Lloyd Jones, died at 9:15 A.M. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She was 65 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jones were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, April 11th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Rev. Donald McCulley, pastor of the Dresden First Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Jim Stubbs, pastor of the Braden United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Walls Cemetery at Braden. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Jones was born September 19, 1942, in Gallaway, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Johnny Starnes and the late Elizabeth Adkison Starnes. She was educated in the Fayette County public school system and was a 1960 graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville. Mrs. Jones was married May 7, 1961, to Lloyd Lynn Jones, retired employee of the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation, who survives.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and was employed as a Social Worker for the Gallaway Healthcare Center in Gallaway for seventeen years before her retirement in 1988. She was an active member of the Braden United Methodist Church where she was a supporter of International Missions. Mrs. Jones' interests enjoyed traveling, flower gardening & birds. Known for her unique laugh, caring nature and ever-present sense of humor, she will be remembered as a giving person who always placed others first. Despite her lengthy illness, Mrs. Jones served as an inspiration to many with her positive attitude and enthusiasm.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Jones is survived by her children, Tina Lynn Baggett (David Brannon) of Lakeland, Billy Starnes Jones ( Diane) of Somerville; her sisters, Mary Sewell of Olive Branch, MS, Connie Sink (Jimmy) of Amory, MS, Peggy DeFoor of Gallaway, Marge Michael of Searcy, AR and six grandchildren, Katye Baggett, Kallye Anne Baggett, Karey Baggett, Megan Jones, William Jones and Rachel Jones.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Cliff Sink, Jason Sink, Brian Leird, James Jones, Johnny Jones, David Jones, Mack Jones and Jerry Jones.
